How My 5 Year Old Measures Up

Today was JD's 5 year old well check with the doctor.  I spent most of the morning trying to convince him that he wouldn't have any shots this time around, but he didn't believe me.  The four year old shots were pretty traumatic.

Apparently, he isn't the first patient with this trauma because the very first thing the doctor said was - "JD, looks like you aren't getting any shots today.  Does that sound good to you?"

Even then, JD was pretty reluctant to talk to the doctor or show any signs of encouragement, in case he changed his mind!

JD measured in at 45.5 inches and 44.8 pounds. That puts him at the 95th percentile for height and 75th percentile for weight.  He gained 3 pounds since his 4 year old check and grew 3 inches - how's that for consistency?

I'm so proud at how much my son has grown, not just in inches, but in maturity this year!  He has made lots of friends at school, loves to play with his sister (and fight), can cut shapes, color in the lines, draw all sorts of objects, count to 100, spell words, sound out words and on and on. Of course, he has to be in the mood to do any of these things...I don't know where he gets his stubborn streak.

I love my little guy who loves to talk to me in the car and ask me all sorts of introspective questions (Will you be able to fit in my heart if Jesus is already in there?).

JD has started to become more self-aware and embarrassed when he gets unwanted attention.  He is very sensitive and worries about others that might be laughed at also.

There isn't much better times in the day then when I get hugs and kisses from my little guy.  He still likes to cuddle with me and I am dreading the day when he doesn't.

Love my sweet, funny Jonathan Douglas!!

Happy 5th Birthday JD!

I'm a little late on posting about JD's fifth birthday...but he is fully five now!

We celebrated JD's birthday on April 2 with a Firehouse party!  This is something I have always wanted to do, since obviously we have a few firefighters in our family.

We started the party out at the Central Allen Fire Station (where Jon works) for a tour.  Uncle Josh was helping out and Uncle Nathan gave the tour!  The kids loved it.

After the tour, we headed over to the original first fire station of Allen, which is now a recreation hall.

Jon did his cake magic again this year because JD requested a real fire truck for his cake.  He also designed a Maltese Cross cake (a firefighter symbol).

We had lots of buddies from school and playgroup this year, in addition to cousins.  JD had a blast!!

My main handiwork was homemade cake pops for party favors.  Not the easiest project in the world!  But super yummy and another request from the birthday boy!

Happy Birthday to my sweet little boy, who is not so little anymore!!
